Custom Framing Built Around the Art

Artwork & Canvas Framing for Homes, Artists & Collectors Across the Ozarks

The right frame can change how a piece of artwork feels without taking attention away from the art itself.

From our Springfield framing shop, Caruso Custom Framing creates custom frames for original artwork, canvas art, prints, posters, photography and other flat pieces. We help you work through frame style, proportion, matting, color and the overall look based on the artwork and where you plan to display it.

Some pieces call for a simple frame that almost disappears. Others can carry something more unexpected. You don't need to know which direction yours should go before you come in. Bring us the artwork, and we'll help you explore the options.

START WITH THE PIECE

What Types of Artwork Can Be Custom Framed?

Custom framing gives you more freedom to build the frame around the artwork instead of trying to fit the artwork into a standard frame.

Caruso works with artists, collectors, designers and homeowners from Springfield and surrounding Ozarks communities on everything from pieces that need a quiet, understated frame to artwork that can carry a more creative design.

Original Artwork

Paintings, drawings and other original works can be framed around the proportions, character and visual details of the individual piece.

Canvas Art

Canvas has its own depth, edges and visual weight. Those characteristics can help guide the scale and style of the surrounding frame.

Prints & Posters

Art prints and posters don't have to end up in a basic poster frame. Custom sizing, matting, spacing and frame selection can give the piece a more finished place on the wall.

Photography

Portraits, fine-art photography and personal photographs can be framed around the image and its proportions rather than being limited by standard frame sizes.

Not sure where your piece fits? Bring it with you. If it's dimensional rather than flat, it may be better suited to our Memorabilia & Shadow Box Framing service.

LET THE ART LEAD THE DESIGN

The Frame Should Work With the Artwork, Not Against It

There isn't one frame style that's right for every piece.

A bold contemporary print may call for something completely different from a traditional painting. A colorful poster may need a frame that gives it structure without adding more visual competition. A quieter piece might leave room to do something a little more expressive around it.

That's where custom framing becomes creative.

At Caruso, we look at the artwork itself when exploring the direction of the frame. Color, scale, proportion and the character of the piece can all influence which combinations feel right.

Already know what you want? We can help you work toward that vision. Not sure at all? That's fine too. We can put different ideas in front of you and help narrow them down.

Our approach can be simple and restrained, eclectic and unexpected, or somewhere in between.

The goal is for the frame to feel like it belongs with the art.

Small Choices Can Change the Whole Piece

Frame, Mat or No Mat? What Should You Consider?

Once you start comparing custom framing options, you'll see how much the details can change the finished piece.

Frame Proportion

The width and scale of a frame affect how it relates visually to the artwork. A larger piece may be able to carry more frame, while another may look better with a narrower profile.

Matting

Matting creates space around certain types of artwork and can introduce another layer of color, texture or contrast.

Not every piece needs a mat. Whether one makes sense depends on the artwork and the look you're trying to create.

Color & Finish

You don't necessarily need to pull an exact color from the artwork into the frame. Sometimes a quieter finish lets the art take the lead. Other pieces can support a stronger frame choice.

Glazing & Materials

The artwork itself also helps determine which materials make sense. When glazing is appropriate, both appearance and protection can be considered as part of the framing choices.

If long-term care is a primary concern, our Conservation & Preservation Framing service goes deeper into conservation-quality materials, reversible methods and UV-protective glazing.

FROM NIXA HOMES TO OZARK ART COLLECTIONS

How Will the Framed Artwork Fit Your Space?

A frame can look great next to the artwork and still feel wrong once it's on the wall. Where the piece is going matters.

A large piece over a fireplace may need enough visual presence to hold its own. A smaller print in a hallway might call for something quieter. If several pieces will hang together, the frames can relate to one another without having to match exactly.

For artwork headed to homes and spaces in Nixa, Ozark and elsewhere around the Springfield metro, wall size, nearby furniture, existing finishes and other artwork can all provide useful context when you're considering the frame.

But the frame doesn't have to perfectly match the room. Interiors change, and artwork moves.

We want the finished piece to feel complete on its own while still working naturally wherever you choose to enjoy it.

Your Artwork Stays Local

Creative Art Framing, Cut & Assembled In-House in Springfield

You don't need to walk into Caruso knowing framing terminology or carrying a finished design plan.

Start with the artwork.

Bring In Your Piece

Seeing the actual artwork lets us compare frame, matting and other options directly alongside it. Bring in the piece, and we'll start with what works for the artwork and the way you want it to look.

Talk Through What You Like

Tell us what you already know. You may have a particular style in mind, know where the piece will hang or simply know what you don't like. If you're starting with no direction, that's okay too.

Explore the Options

We'll compare choices from clean and minimal to something more creative. Frame profile, proportion, matting, glazing and other applicable materials can all help shape the finished piece.

We Cut & Assemble It Here

Once the selections are made, Caruso handles the cutting and assembly in-house at our Springfield framing shop. Your artwork stays with us instead of being shipped somewhere else to be framed.

ARTWORK & CANVAS FRAMING FAQS

What to Know Before Having Your Artwork Custom Framed

  • Do I need to know what kind of frame I want before I come in?

No. If you already have a direction in mind, bring your ideas with you. If you don't, bring the artwork and we'll help you explore different options.

  • Can you frame original artwork?

Yes. Caruso provides custom framing for original artwork. Frame style, proportion, matting and other choices can be considered around the individual piece and how you want it to look when finished.

  • Can you frame prints and posters?

Yes. Prints and posters can be custom framed rather than being limited to standard ready-made sizes and styles. Custom sizing, matting and frame choices give you more control over the finished look.

  • Does artwork always need a mat?

No. Matting is an option, not a requirement for every piece. Whether a mat makes sense depends on the artwork, the frame and the look you're trying to create.

  • What if protecting the artwork is my biggest concern?

We use conservation-quality materials in our custom framing. If long-term preservation is a priority, our Conservation & Preservation Framing service explains more about conservation-quality materials, reversible framing methods and UV-protective glazing.

  • What if the piece is dimensional instead of flat artwork?

Jerseys, medals, textiles, collectibles and other dimensional pieces may need additional depth and a different framing approach. Our Memorabilia & Shadow Box Framing service is designed around those types of pieces.
